Joh. Jos. Prüm Riesling Kabinett 2011

Enticing, streamlined and superb. Flies like a butterfly, stings like a bee.

Alluring golden colour full of luminosity.

Intense and clearly defined mineral aromas of flint, sea salt and petrol, followed by notes of wet grass and slight sweetness of peach and lichee with some citrus zest.

On the palate equally dry with high acidity and mineral overtones, only a touch of sweetness, light body with intense flavours, and an elegant, slate finish.

86 points

Food pairings:

The wines light body with low levels of alcohol and subtle sweetness make it perfect for Asian dishes and slightly spicy foods. Some examples: Thai food, spicy fish or chicken tacos, Parma ham with melon.

Joh. Jos. Prüm stands for the name Johannes Joseph Prüm, one of the founding members in this family owned estate. The winery is in the Mosel region of Germany, the coolest wine growing region in Europe famous for Riesling. The winery was born in 1911 and has become a point of reference internationally for this type of wine. They only grow and harvest Riesling and 75% of the plants are ungrafted. The grapes are handpicked and fermented in steel at very low temperatures, rigorously following tradition, only natural yeasts are used and there is no aging in wood barrels.

This is a Kabinett Riesling, meaning it is off-dry and the first grapes to be harvest, followed by Spätlese and Auslese with rising levels of residual sugar, and in favourable years Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese, grapes where the nobile fungus botrytis has developed, similar to Sauternes.
